Article by Alan Poletti, former Professor of Physics at The University Auckland about his research of three censuses of Italians living in Westland, New Zealand, in about 1880. The censuses specific information on the individuals, Poletti condensed it into a database and deposited with the Italian Historical Society. Combining these censuses with other information then allowed Poletti to determine where the first Italian settlers in New Zealand came from, why they came and when.
